Towie School is situated amongst the rolling hills of Donside, some 13 miles from Alford, the nearest large centre of population. The School’s catchment extends for a radius of approximately 10 miles, serving the population of outlying glens as well as the hamlet of Glenkindie. There has been a school on the present site for about 130 years. Until the 1960s, Towie School was a junior secondary. Currently the school has two classrooms and a self-contained Nursery, along with a separate dining room, kitchen and our own cook.
Towie School provides education for children aged 3 –12, from ante-pre school nursery to Primary 7.
The school roll of 23 pupils is taught within a single class. Towie Primary School has one full time teacher, along with a full time headteacher who provides non contact class teaching cover. The pupils are supported in the classroom by Part time Pupil Support Assistant and Support For Learners teacher. The school also works closely with a range of other support agencies in order to provide the best possible experience for children with additional support needs. Currently, 11 nursery pupils are enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year to attend full day sessions. The nursery is led by the Early Years Senior Practitioner, supported by a team consisting of an Early Years Lead Practitioner, 2 part-time Early Years Practitioners and an Early Years Support Worker
Our Active Schools Coordinator provides a range of additional active and sporting opportunities for the children.
The teaching staff are supported by a School Administrator, a part time Pupil Support Assistant, a School Cook, a Lunch Time Assistant, a Cleaner and a part time Janitor.
On leaving Towie Primary School, most pupils transfer to Alford Academy. Towie School is part of the Alford Community Schools’ Network and works closely with the other schools in the Network.
Community links are a valued part of school life. The school has a very supportive Parent Council who support school improvement activities and raise additional funds to provide many extras for the pupils in the school.
Devolved budgets are managed in accordance with authority guidelines in order to support planned improvements in the school.
